Workshop - Saturday, June 13th in Natick, MA!

On Saturday, June 13th you do not want to miss this workshop. Eric Beard and I will be breaking down the Turkish Get-Up (TGU), the 6 steps and the corrective exercises for each step. The Turkish Get-Up is an excellent functional movement screen that helps to recognize mobility and stability issues with the shoulder, core strength, flexibility or lack their of and overall strength. The TGU trains your body in every plane of motion (frontal, sagital, transverse) which is great for athletes. If we can get our clients, the general popular and ourselves to master the Turkish Get-Up, we would make people feel better and move more efficiently. By teaching people to properly sink the kettlebell into the latissimus dorsi (lats), and pack their shoulder down (opposite of a shrug), we could solve a lot of shoulder and neck pain. Core strength and torso rotation is a huge component with the TGU. If we can strengthen the core, we could help with back problems. Torso rotation is a common movement in every day life, so if we strengthen the right muscles, we could prevent injuries.

Flexibility or lack their of, will be prevalent with step 4. If we can stretch out tight and sore muscles, we will make someone feel better and move more efficiently. If someone is too flexibility, they lack stability, the TGU will work to stabilize the muscles and ligaments surrounding the joint.

There are common problems associated with each step of the TGU. Eric and I will provide 3 to 5 corrective exercises for each step. Let me take Step 1 as an example. Most people have trouble sinking the kettlebell in their lats (packing the shoulder down). We will provide exercises to help you pack the shoulder down away from your ears and neck. The arm bar with a kettlebell, wall slides and wall rotators are great corrective exercises to help with this common problem.

Also in the workshop, we will break down the kettlebell swing, the proper progressions of the swing and corrective exercises surrounding the swing. More information on the swing will be posted next week
